Gutsy newbie

Last week the T20 cricketing action between India and England was so gripping that I couldn't stop writing about it. Those who don't follow cricket, read on. You might change your mind. Warming up for the Indian Premier League, the IND-ENG series has been well fought and thrilling till the finish. What was exciting was the way newbies/debutants changed the tide for India.

After losing the 1st T20 match badly to England, I was hoping India will bounce back in the 2nd. The Indian batting innings started with the 1st over being a maiden wicket one. Losing one of the finest T20 batsmen KL Rahul was caught at the start. Social media started buzzing .. Rahul has a challenge performing well in a Modi state or a stadium. Shhh... I'm not talking politics, it’s just statistics. After the disappointing 1st over, a 22yr young sensation took guard. Flicking the 1st ball on his debut match for a four was a treat to watch. So calm and cool, this guy was playing his natural game, taking the English bowlers to the cleaners. Welcoming every new bowler with a six or a four. Captain Virat was on the other end, just admiring the heroics, the grit and the adroit all in one. I have never seen him so animated while on the non-strikers end. This lad set the tone of the match and India romped on to win the match.

There was another debutant, (Suryakumar Yadav) who didn't get a chance to show his class in the 2nd match. He was patient and he got his chance in the 4th match. Coming one down before Capt.Kohli was enough proof that team India was backing him. Well for others it would have been added pressure, but this lad had other plans. He had the audacity to flick one of the best bowlers in the world for a SIX over fine leg. How many ever times I look at it ..can't help, my jaws still drop.

He set the tone for another victory and it was delightful to see these young lads playing fearless cricket and more importantly how both of them ceased the opportunity and never looked back.

My take away from the series, youth power is changing the world. Not just in cricket, but everywhere in every field. It's not something new, it's been happening for a long time ... Bill Gates, Mark Zuckerberg. But still when it comes to the corporate world our acceptance of change has been with reluctance, caution and lack of resolve. Some of the successful organizations put a lot of effort in picking young talent and nurturing them for success. They go to the extreme of pairing each MGMT trainee with a VP to ensure he gets enough experience and exposure. That really shows how open the organisation is and how committed they are in making them succeed. High growth organizations always embrace change and look for people who can question the status quo and bring in fresh thoughts. One of my favourite companies, the largest IT services company in India, has done this repeatedly. Their strategy has always been to invest in the young and this is an organisation, which has white haired wisdom everywhere but never sighed from letting young minds take the steering wheel and they have spring boarded the org into different orbit shifts. My only request to those who believe in tried and tested - it works for sure, but you'll never know what you are missing and here at iOPEX, I feel we have the right mix of old and new to get us to the next shift.

Coming to the iOPEX story, I have spoken about many old timers, let me talk about a new face. She joined the same day as me and we used to be ex colleagues. It was old friends getting together again. She is an avid blogger and a story teller.(refer link below ).

Her passion is are in fashion design and if you see her adorning something new it could well be her own signature fashion statement. We'll wait am not even half done. Let's talk about her pets .. 3 dogs(In order of age - young to old - Miley, Julie, Sweapea), dozen plus pigeons, a tank full of kutty sharks and a tea time with crows all in her beautiful house in Chennai. Yes she also has people living in that house, her sweet family. It reminded me of the famous Tamil classic "Bharatha Vilas". Well no doubt she is dexterous and the best person to run our academy. Stay Safe !!
